Kräftriket is situated in the northeast of Stockholm next to the water of Brunnsviken. It is strongly categorized by the university facilities and the surrouinding vegetation of the National City Park.
The design process began by studying the existing building typologies in Kräftriket and determine in what way they could be implemented in the project to benefit the intended auditorium building. Almost every building built on the site is designed witha pitched roof in different constellations, which made it a natural architectural form for investigation. It turned out to be very appropriate for both the site in question and the auditorium. Apart from the great spatial qualities for the auditorium, it enabled to give the site a direction and connect the level differentialities on the site.
Since the architectural form is quite minimalistic and simple, it was of great importance to pay extra attention to the construction details and materiality. The most distinctive expression of the facade is the red brickwork with widened joint smeared over the bricks which adds extra tactility to the large facade surfaces.
